The Ponteland Partnership Extended Services team is committed to bringing together our local communities, schools, parents, carers and statutory and voluntary organisations to promote the best interests of all. We intend to do this by consulting regularly with our communities and partners, providing activities and opportunities that meet local need and signposting to activities and services where provision already exists.
Our partnership consists of six first schools, two middle schools, one high school and we work closely with representatives from a number of local organisations including:
Health
Our FACT Team
Our Children’s Centre
Family Learning
to ensure that the needs of the members of our communities are met.
All our schools currently have full core offer status and are working hard to ensure that we maintain this in the future.
We consult annually through a questionnaire available on the Northumberland County Council website and our Parents’ and Community Conference. We use the results of these consultations to inform our annual action plan.
We run a variety of activities for all ages during holidays and evenings. For further details please see our website www.pontelandextendedservices.co.uk
The Ponteland Community Band
We recently saw the launch of the Ponteland Community Band. The intention of the band is to bring together musicians of all ages- young and old, from the Ponteland Partnership areas, who have reached the standard of grade 3 and above. Already, they have been invited to do their first public engagement at the Sage in Gateshead. This is an exciting, new, community venture which showcases the talents of people in the local community and surrounding areas.
The band includes saxophone players, flautists, a percussionist, clarinet players, an excellent pianist and we even have a trombone player.
The band is conducted by Alastair Lord, a composer and trumpet player of note.
Creativity Workshops
Another holiday activity that has been extremely successful is our fun, creativity workshop. Children and their parent/carer are encouraged to bring out their creative side by painting together, making peg dolls, decorating biscuits, mask making, making a flag, designing a card or collage or ‘drawing on the floor’. These sessions are well supported and the number of families taking part is growing.
Reminiscence Theatre
The reminiscence play was a successful arts project, written and performed by students at the High School in conjunction with Ponteland Manor Care home residents over a period of 14 weeks.
The characters in the play were developed from the memories of the residents and painted a true picture of life in the 1940s. Finally, in January the play was performed to an audience from Ponteland Manor, parents, pupils, teachers and governors. Dressed in the fashions of the 1940s, the students took to the stage and gave a wonderful performance, which was humorous and very entertaining.
Family Learning cycling proficiency
Following a family learning event last October, there has been a great demand for more cycling proficiency for parents and children in the Ponteland Partnership. In total, we have had 56 parents and children coming along with a packed lunch and achieving their level 1.
Currently, we have a waiting list and hope to work through this during future school holidays. Not only do families learn to ride a bicycle together safely, they also learn how to mend a puncture. Awarded with a certificate, drinks bottle and bicycle badge, the families go home having had a fun day out together.
