The Governments Every Child Matters agenda means that we should all be working together to make sure that all children have the best chance of:
• Staying safe
• Enjoying and achieving
• Making a positive contribution
• Achieving economic wellbeing
Bedlington Schools Partnership Extended Services works with everyone who wants the best for children - helping people to work together to achieve the outcomes above through better communication and joint work.
During the past year we have undertaken extensive consultation with families, schools and multi agency partners to identify the gaps and priorities for the area, and most schools in the Partnership should meet the full core offer by July 2008 through the pieces of work that have been developed from this.
A series of very successful networking events around each area of the core offer have been held to bring everyone together, and directories and follow up local forums have been established for example around childcare and family support Forums, School Facilities Directory and an adult learning leaflet.
Presentations to all school staff teams and Governors groups, as well as termly newsletters that go to every family in the partnership, keep everyone informed about what we are doing. We are lucky to have a well established multi agency steering group, and also a committed Governors Forum linked to this.

Family Information Points
Schools told us that one of the biggest issues they had was keeping up to date with the many sports and other activities, adult learning and family support organisation in the area so that they could effectively signpost families to them. Working closely with the Families Information Service, we have set up Family Information Points in each school, with a link person in school who is supported regularly to make sure families get all the most useful information when they have a particular need.
Family Support
Individual support work with families is working well, with increasing referrals being made. Families have responded well to a short period of intensive support which can look at a wide range of issues including confidence and self esteem, practical aspects of parenting, and signposting to other support services.
Ears 2 U
Every class of first school children in the partnership took part in fun activities to find out about what kind of after schools clubs they wanted and how they wanted them run. We worked with Ears 2 U, a local childrens participation project, to do this.
CAF Training
Locally based CAF training organised by Extended Services made it easier for most schools in the partnership to do this essential training.
Award winning...
Some of the multi agency work we have done jointly with our local Children’s Centre and the FACT Team recently won a Northumberland County Council Children’s Services Good Practice Award.
Attendance
A successful round of Attendance Workshops have been undertaken in some of the Bedlington Partnership schools. The Schools that took part are now waiting to see if there will be any impact. Some of the schools are willing to take these on as a rolling programme.
