By working together we are supporting the development of a thriving, successful community where children and young people can Feel Safe, Be Healthy, Enjoy and Achieve, Make a Positive Contribution and Achieve Economic Well Being. We believe that children need to be placed at the centre of our community and this can best be achieved by improving the collective effectiveness of our support services.
The Alnwick Extended Services Partnership is one of the largest geographical areas in Northumberland with 24 schools (First, Middle and High) being supported in the delivery of the Extended Services core offer.
The ability to deliver support over this vast area has been significantly enhanced by the strength of our team of experienced and enthusiastic staff. In addition, effective structures are in place for management and coordination of Extended Services which have brought together the work of Extended Services through schools and Childrens Centre/SureStart under one common agenda. This has enabled the establishment of a real continuum of support from pre-school and through all school phases for children, young people and families.
Through Extended Services we believe that we are providing the support children, young people and families need to achieve their potential within our learning partnership.

playgroup, a facility much requested by local families. 1-1 support sessions, baby massage and group meetings add to the busy mix at the centre.
Work is ongoing to develop more linked work with Alnwick Community Centre and Extended Services, there is still much to do, but with new staff coming into post, some exciting challenges and opportunities lie ahead.
Varied Menu of Activities – an innovative approach
A highly successful approach to enrichment of young people’s learning experiences has been recently organised by Mark Carr – Out of School Hours Learning Coordinator.
Mark recruited 25 Year 10, 12 and 13 volunteer peer tutors from Duchess’s High School who were trained to pass on their skills to First and Middle School pupils. Over 150 First and Middle School pupils were involved in projects which included partnership work with The National Trust, after school arts clubs, environmental clubs, dance clubs, a drama club (culminating in a performance at Alnwick PlayHouse), a rock based music club, a cycle training programme and ICT club.
The programme culminated in a celebration event at Alnwick Gardens for volunteers, schools and parents where certificates were presented. Recruitment to the team of Peer Tutors for 2008/9 has already begun!
Swift and Easy Access to Targeted and Specialist Services
“We’re here to help”
The Alnwick Partnership has a strong tradition of innovation and the Duchess’s Community High School established (under the guidance of George Adamson, Co-ordinator of Student Support Services) a multi-agency Student Support Team over two years ago. Effective methods of inter-agency working were established which have really made a difference to the support received by young people and families.
This supportive structure has been so successful that a First and Middle School Students Support Group has recently been established. This is facilitated by Sheila Rogerson, our Family Support Worker.
Both student support groups operate on the foundation principle that the vast majority of us meet a time in our lives when we need support and guidance. The key is to offer support when needed as smoothly and effectively as possible.
Our multi-agency teams are enthusiastic and passionate about their work and how this links with the newly established Alnwick FACT team.
